GMC co-director Terry Poulos (right) at the British Museum in London (October 2011) standing next to a scale model of the (intact) Parthenon. Flanking him on the side walls are the original Parthenon Marbles, all-too-commonly referred to by most media (in modern times) as the quote "Elgin Marbles." In ancient times, these works of intricate, ornate art used to adorn the outer rim just under the Parthenon's roof (called the Frieze). After centuries of war and strife, these masterpieces were pillaged and later sold on the oft-unregulated global antiquities market, ultimately winding up in the possession of Lord Elgin of England. There has been a large-scale effort during the past few years to have the marbles returned to their rightful home. The marbles tell an elaborate story, hence their mention here as "media"
